Junior Sailing

Join the Fun on the Water...

Since 1896, the Halifax River Yacht Club has been Daytona Beach's home for boaters - both sailing and power boaters. These deep roots in our boating history drive HRYC's Junior Sailing programs. Our instructors are dedicated to help instill not only the love of sailing, but also boating safety, comradery and fun on the water. Past participants of HRYC's Junior Sailing Program have participated in HRYC's annual Commodore's Cup Racing series and have sailed on family vacations in Florida, the Bahamas and beyond. Some have even joined the Junior Sailing Team. Whatever their boating future brings, participants in the Junior Sailing Program at the Halifax River Yacht Club have an opportunity to discover an appreciation for boating in Florida, have fun, and begin to enjoy the amenities at the Halifax River Yacht Club. All of the Junior Sailing Programs are open to boys and girls from ages 8-16, who are affiliated with HRYC members.

Learn to Sail

The Learn to Sail Camps at the Halifax River Yacht Club offer a week long summer program for boys and girls from ages 8-16 at any level of sailing ability including beginners. Classes will be divided into groups based on age and sailing ability. Our Learn to Sail Programs, are not your typical day camp - we're dedicated to teaching the love of sailing. The day will start with a briefing of our day and then we're out in our fleet of small boats enjoying the Halifax River. Instructors keep an eye on everyone from small power boats, lending a hand when needed. After lunch and maybe a dip in the pool, we're back out on the water. Students enrolled in our Learn to Sail Programs have access to classrooms during inclement weather, bathroom and shower facilities and the pool. Breakfast, lunch and beverages are provided by HRYC. Full details are available on the  "Youth Sailing Camp Information" and "Sail Camp Registration" pages of this website.

Team HRYC

Many of the students who learn to sail in our sailing camps go on to join HRYC's Junior Sailing Team. Our racers continue their education on our fleet of slightly larger boats, including optis, lasers and 420s, and compete in area races. Although this is not the focus of our Learn to Sail Programs, we encourage any interested students to learn more about the sport of sailing.

Please remember that registration is on a first come basis.  Please email juniorsailing@hryc.com or call Debbie Kampa at 386-255-7459.  We look forward to a great summer of fun on the water!
